On 21 November 2024, OurMED joined the first webinar of the RSI addressing smallholder farmers’ resilience in the agri-food chain. This innovative event brought together 79 participants to discuss know-how, lessons learnt, synergies and dissemination activities of projects involved.
Our project coordinator, Dr Seifeddine Jomaa from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), presented Social and Technological Innovations through the examples of the OurMED’s services: SmartAG App, River Basin Digital Twins, High-resolution Sensors.
Nine other projects presented their contributions on diverse aspects of smallholder resilience such as Digital Platforms for Resource Sharing, smallholder-tailored ICT strategy, Post-harvest Food Loss and Waste and Advisory Services for Short Food Supply Chains.
In addition, a Round Table discussion titled "The Challenges of Smallholders Towards Increased Sustainability and Resilience" was led by PRIMA Project Officer, Dr Mohamed Wageih.
OurMED’s involvement in the RSI webinar provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the project’s approach to increase decision-making for smallholders in the water domain and show its potential for extension to the entire value chain.
The webinar also allowed for insightful experience sharing and provided a platform for future activities such as building a matrix showing how contributing projects are addressing smallholder farmers’ resilience, publishing a fact sheet highlighting the projects’ activities, and creating a YouTube channel to collect and publish videos.
