The OurMED project is pleased to share an exciting PhD opportunity on Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for mitigating Urban Heat Islands (UHIs). This three-year PhD will be hosted at the Hydrology, Meteorology and Complexity (HM&Co) laboratory at Ecole Nationale des Ponts et ChaussΓ©es (ENPC) in France, with a secondment at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in Spain.
Research Scope
Urban areas face increasing heat stress due to climate change and urbanization. Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), such as green roofs and rain gardens, help reduce temperatures through evapotranspiration. This PhD will focus on:
- Developing monitoring strategies for high-precision measurement of heat fluxes.
- Analyzing evapotranspiration variability at different urban scales.
- Using advanced modeling techniques to assess NbS efficiency.
