The Mediterranean Water Management Workshop: Addressing “The Mediterranean Paradox”

Interdisciplinary scientists from France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, and Türkiye gathered in Magdeburg for the Mediterranean Water Management Workshop, a two-day event dedicated to tackling “The Mediterranean Paradox” — a region simultaneously facing severe water stress and standing at the forefront of water management innovation.

Organised by the Research Unit Water (TB2) and supported by the UFZ initiative “From Planetary Boundaries to Planetary Solutions”, the workshop was moderated by the NextGen4MED initiative. It brought together representatives from seven PRIMA Partnership-funded projectsSustaincoast, MEDSAL, InTheMed, Intel-Irris, RESILINK, SalamMed, and OurMED — funded under five different calls.

This event provided a unique platform for knowledge exchange, enabling project partners to share lessons learned, methodologies, and innovative approaches to address pressing water-related challenges across the Mediterranean.

By bridging experiences, disciplines, and regions, the workshop strengthened collaboration among Mediterranean research initiatives and fostered the development of integrated, sustainable, and resilient water management solutions for the region’s future.
