OurMED presented at the 5th MEDGU Conference in Athens

The Technical University of Crete team presented OurMED at the 5th MEDGU Conference, held from 10–12 November 2025 in Athens, Greece. Their work focused on the application of the WEAP model to improve water allocation practices in the Keritis River basin (Crete).

Their study addressed a pressing question:
Are current water distribution networks resilient enough to face present and future water challenges?

By designing a decision-oriented and stakeholder-based model, the team simulated the basin’s water distribution, involving key actors such as DEYACH (urban supply), TOEB (agricultural irrigation) and OAK (regional water authority).

Key outcomes

  • No unmet water demand was detected during the simulation

  • The model proved reliable and aligned with real network conditions

  • Stakeholder feedback confirmed its applicability for local management

Next steps

Future research will explore alternative configurations, new infrastructure solutions, and seasonal demand factors, helping to strengthen adaptive water governance in the Mediterranean region.
